artist: Bastard Noise
title: Live at Babycastles
Despite being a long-standing and well-respected outfit, one can never predict what sort of aural assault any given Bastard Noise release will bring. Constant and consistent skull servant Eric Wood has continually experimented with different personnel and instrumentation, but the end result is always unmistakably Bastard Noise. Live at Babycastles marks the very first performance of the Anthony Saunders/Eric Wood line-up but the pure chemistry between these expert improvisors is readily apparent in this remarkable set. Their approach was fully electronic: devoid of any vocals or more traditional instrumentation. The near 40-minute performance starts at a slow, quiet boil, and builds progressively into an intense onslaught of oscillators, noise, and ambience. Expertly recorded by Bob Bellerue and mastered by Anthony Saunders, this disc is an impressive document of an incredible concert. Co-released by Skull, RSM, and Small Doses.
