pro cd resissue of the second small doses release. long out of print and counted amongst aidan's best solo work. A 51 minute work of shimmering, pulsating drone broken into twelve parts (one for each word of the title) that come together to form a seamless, wordless narrative. packaged in a sleeve with insert and obi. co-released with basses frequences.

Black Horizons cassette

Packed full of subtly and barely there sounds, static and mechanical in nature. This work is dynamic, beautiful, and haunting, emotional yet showing complete restraint, and hopefully not the last we will hear from this project. A near perfect expression of minimalism through sound. Packaged in a clear plastic clam shell, with silver offset printing on black vellum paper for layered effect. Edition of 100 copies on hi-bias chrome tapes with silver labels.

pyramids (hydra head records) provided each of the 52 artists participating in the project four different audio clips - not so much a song, but four separate, cooperating textures. each artist was asked to create an entirely new piece of music incorporating what they wished from the provided sounds, whatever techniques they wanted to employ, and whatever additions they wished to make. wvndrkmmer contains 52 tracks from 52 different artists on 5 cassettes with a total run time over 6 hours. the total edition is 300 copies - 100 copies of the 'red' edition and 200 of the 'black' edition. the 'red' copies will go to the first 100 preorders.

heart and crossbones

"?" offers a 79 minutes album of field recordings oriented compositions that feature murky cello, piano and accordion parts, nocturnal voices, a vast array of concrete snippets and more resonances of existences that give Albert Aylers' "Music is the healing force of the universe" new depths and meanings. "?" sees Phillips observing and carefully dissecting his human psyche into ten intimate and innovative music pieces, confronting them with the bile and degradation of the omnipresent while deconstructing his own ravage with a binding urge to cleanse. And it's a fascinating insight to listen to."

at war with false noise cd

At last!!! We've had this one brewing for months now and it's well worth the wait! What started off as a small run of CDrs has become At War's most ambitious release to date, and I'm totally fucking chuffed by it!!! This collection comprises demos, live stuff, rarities and rehearsals from the UK's most consistently interesting, forward-thinking, and just plain fucking great band of the last decade. Starting off from now and moving backwards through time to the early bedroom demo days, this CD shows Marzuraan's evolution from simplistic droning minimalism of the two bass lineup to the full-on rock beast of today.

From the vintage sounds of The Last Drop Of Weight to the lightness of Cream, through the intense immersion of Circle Mountain and Crystal Covered, Panos Alexiadis shows what he is capable of. Crystal Covered is the outcome of his solo work. His previous releases lead you to this, an inner travel full of colors, warm and in some ways, psychedelic. A new, deep, intense fix for all lovers of Expo 70 and Emeralds' drones.

self released cdr

"A Scottish outfit who, judging by the letter accompanying this, managed to dislodge a fair amount of dust during a devil-may-care gig played in a small room in a small house on small Blackpool back street. Small rooms may be the best place in which to capture their noise drone material judging by the second and longest track on here, a monster power chord drone barrage that could be the long lost cousin of a guitar laden Ramleh b-side. It’s all slowly strummed six string kachungs that set off imploding stars of epic drone against which a vibrating box of noise does the oscillating throat box bit. Not too far away from Ashtray Navigations more rocktacular works either. There’s some decent noise in the first track and the gently pulled strings picking out a delicate melody on ‘As Heaven Was Revealed’ would indicate that The Radiation Line may have been indulging in some Emeralds records. The desolate swirl and fraying synth splutters of the final track ‘Spiral’ meant that this humble CD will not be getting passed on [as recommended on the back sleeve to all those who ‘don’t dig’]." -Idwal Fisher review

"From the first listen it's hard to be anything other than completely
convinced. The Skull-adorned cover may give this EP the look of a
straight doom metal release, but this collective are anything but. A
well aware but never world-weary folk-drone psychedelic release, it's
both fantastically diverse and shitting-well enjoyable; rock-noise
explorations, mad travelogue remixes and leashed feedback." - Rock a Rolla<strong></strong>

heart and crossbone cd

Collaborating Torture is one of the last known recordings made by Matt Gibney AKA Hollowing, who died in January 2006. Gibney, a member of SOIHADTOSHOOTHIM who was also running the important Rectrix label and mail-order, was joined here by the prolific Maor Appelbaum (Grave in the Sky, Poochaltz and Maurizio Bianchi, to name a few) to create a brooding and massive 54 minutes track of dark pitch-black ambient of hypnagogic swirls and industrialized drones. Sometimes subtle, yet mostly haunted and delirious, this is highly recommended if you like Wilt, Murderous Vision, Brighter Death Now, Aidan Baker, Z'ev, Daniel Menche, The Caretaker and John Duncan.

at war with false noise cd

This CD combines two of Glasgow's best experimental bands, neither of which really seem to get the credit or attention they deserve. John Comar AKA Noma has been wowing audiences for a few years now with his constantly changing live sets, a slew of CDr releases on various labels, and as an auxilliary member of metal powerhouse Black Sun, but this is his first "proper" CD release. He takes on two tracks here, the first is a slowly-building tone-fest. Very ambient, and hauntingly beautiful...bascially what Noma does best. Next track "Amusia" is a little atypical of what most people will expect. Imposing thuds are interjected by what sounds like some form of screeching metallic machine being thrown down some stairs, electronic blasts. Surreal, bizarre, unpredictable....very Noma.

This is only the second ever release by Adam Cresser's Rejectamenta, and his one track here, "SSilence" is a follow-up to his CDr on At War from a couple of years ago entitles SServant. This couldn't be any further away from silence, total overload of a billion circuit-bent instruments all melded together into one massive orchestral binary cacophany. Lovely hooks come here and there, the whole thing takes a few listens just to figure out what the hell is going on, great stuff.

God is Myth

"Maledicere creates a Satanic pulse of harsh dissonance, delivering unearthly tones, and cold reverberations, that purify themselves against the damp basement walls in which they were recorded. Uno Actu creates soundscapes most suitable for a tortured and wondrous isolation, evoking a unique ambiance of chilling, contemplative, overtones; a complex, yet nihilistic trance."

dose70

jason crumer never ceases to amaze me. lots of people can do harsh noise well, but I can't think of too many (any?) that can make it sound so deliberate, personal, and soulshredding. this 7" is no exception, a personal hell sounds just about right. metal drags, scrapes, bangs, and creaks - blowing microphones, speakers, and yr mind. the sample will give you a hint of what's in store, but those that step up to this thing will come to get the full understanding. you won't be disappointed. edition of 300 on brown/green vinyl with a 77 minute cdr showcasing a more ambient side of Crumer. cover art by chris murdoch. photos by roxann and rachal spikula.

this is a deperture from jenks' horseback project, to say the very least. it a documentation of sorts of some dying electonics - sounds made by a machine, seemingly of its own will, as it could no longer serve its intened purpose. i'll be honest, this is a tough listen in many ways. some may find it monotonous and frustrating, others might find its purity meditative and rewarding. proceed with caution. edition of 51 copies featuring the artist's own drawings.

"6 tracks of totally amazing subtle ambiance. I'm pretty lost for words when I think about this release, but I can say that it is totally ethereal and mesmerizing. I have lost my self in this album several times and each time I discovered new depths to it. It sounds like floating in clouds, it really does.
dead pilot records

"The album begins with "Sleep", a ghostly and tension building introduction, with long sustained organ tones and subtle guitar riffs. Crumbling low end kicks in followed by eerie fuzz and static as the second track begins. Waves and swells of textured synths are the prelude to an epic chorus of screaming drones. The mood of the album really sets in place by track 3, entitled "Heavy Weather", a near 14 minute mash of blissful guitar noise and pulsating electronic beats. The depth of detail in this track is incredible and has to be heard through the finest of speakers or headphones to be fully appreciated. The track "Sulk" is a rare acoustic track from Ekca, bringing an organic or 'human' edge to this other wise otherworldly and celestial album. It also acts as a breather between the huge and intense music Ekca has created here. Although that is not to say the track is of any less importance at all."

"Douleurfantome, aka Creature, is Vincent Vigier. A one man guitar manipulator, thrasher, noiser, droner, genius. People who have been following the store for some time now will know that Vincent's album under the Creature alias was one of my favourite listening experiences in a long time. After exchanging a few emails and doing a few trades, Vincent started sending me demos of a few tracks he was working on and the result is this release; Part 1.5.
dead pilot records

"Beginning with an outburst of wailing guitars, sounding like a sort of satanic cry from the depths of hell, the piece gradually picks up pace with subtle percussion and layers of synth drones, swells and sweeps. When it gets in full motion, more howls and cries dance and echo above the noise. A full on bleak assault. Joey begins the second half of the split with high pitched electronic synth gargles and guitar moans n' groans before taking us into more warm drone territory. The final track combines the above two with haunting broken vocals and organs/synths, all pushed to the red creating a twisted and eerie wall of ghostly noise."

"A decidedly personal and unnerving recording, Wretch was written during a period of mental instability that lasted nearly two years. The result is a release that bleeds raw emotion: loss, hatred, self-loathing, and reflection; starting at rock bottom with waves of dark ambience and quietly spoken words, moving further into the depths of a tortured mind. The result is a gradual advance into forceful, vengeful power electronics."

"A History Of Labyrinths was recorded in an old abandoned house on the west coast of Norway during easter 2009. The album was created using a lot of old equipment that was found in the house, including guitars, tapes, gramophones, mouth harp, radio, an old synth, and field recordings from inside and around the building. The idea was to hopefully capture some of the atmosphere from that place.
The calm surroundings, with vast mountains and woods, combined with a gloomy, and at times creepy feeling of being alone with all the ghosts of this huge and labyrinthic house at night.
There are elements of drone, improvisation, some kind of primitive "doom",
loops and more ambient spaces..."

"Has been a long time coming but it's finally out! Black Sun take the first side with a surprisingly short, fast and loud number. Still as heavy as previous At War LP "Paralyser" but much more in the short, fast and loud vein. This one's been a set-closer for a while now and is a total rager, will hopefully be a nice surprise to a lot of you! This is the first release by Manchester-based sludgers They Are Cowards and it's a beast. Totally focussed, grim northern waste-inspired misery, building from a massive Celtic Frost-esque riff. A totally brilliant pairing of northern negativity!

"Half of Cadaver in Drag gets his first shot at vinyl by way of a single. Two tracks, rather different from each other, and much of the artist's other releases. Overall a cleaner, and more realized sound. Vocals come to the front, with lyrical structure on the first track, the b-side is a journey into the darkest of swamps, yet it still retains the feeling of being a beautiful yet frightening collage of sound with a higher degree of fidelity than what is usually associated with similar efforts. Black vinyl with an offset printed 3-panel sleeve, copper ink on either black or cream stock, printed in roughly a 50/50 ratio, pick which color you like more! Edition of 350 copies."

at war with false noise LP
"New album from the most sick, depraved musical nihilist currently active in the underground! After the almost orthodox black metal of GTT's last At War release, the amazing "Genocidal Deliverance" 7", this new full-length album sees a return to the excrutiating slowly-turning thumbscrew approach of old. The layering is totally perfect, and as a whole the record sounds something like a chamber orchestra playing as Gomorrah burns. The world has ended, carrion crows are circling, and Gnaw Their Tongues is playing in the background. His most realised and focused album yet....brilliant! 300 copies only. Fully printed inner and outer sleeves in thick stock, black vinyl.

"conceptualized around autoerotic asphyxiation, forming an abstract narrative into a singular autoerotic experience. A singular moment in flux within the body. The sound compositions consist of consciousness cut ups - flashes of memory and anomalies of the moment interweaving. Dark drone and experimental ambience. Mastered by the legendary Robert Rich. Beautiful 6-panal digi-CD designed by Anastasia Sarandou. Truly a great work of Dark Ambience."

you never quite know what to expect from crow feathers. brandon miller seems to take a very organic approach to the music he makes as evidenced here. temple lions consists of processed field recordings that take on a pulsating rhythm of sorts. that leads into pale interiors, one of the most beautiful drones i have ever heard. this is a pretty tough release to describe, so i highly recommend the samples. edition of 71 copies

both artists on this release took their inspiration from photographs of deserted, discarded, and decrepit buildings. sparkling wide pressure's (frank baugh)track seems to evoke the ghosts that still inhabit these forgotten places with ethereal loops, samples and drones. rambutan (eric hardiman of century plants) follows with an epic, drone track that takes on the emptiness seen in the images. "Nicholas' debut CD is much more than an impeccably constructed piece of abstract drone music: The Chiasmus undulates between waves of quiet melancholy and overwhelming beauty, with small slices of pointillistic noise. an album where the emotional response is always the central focus rather then pure aesthetic concerns, the nuances of The Chiasmus are only revealed upon multiple listens; by then, the listener is completely tuned into the world it presents." Anders Peterson (also known as relapshychO and for his works with rapoon and merzbow - among others) comes from a very different world than "plain" droneland and came to me with very different records from what i'm used to. but i liked the organic sounds made from field recordings of the 4 elements mixes with the guitars, bass and female vocals he recorded. this is actually not "drone" but really worth the listen."
elementality revisited: "companion CDR to the "elementality" CD, including the sound source mix send to the artists as the basic material for their remixes, and remixes by aidan baker, rapoon, sarana, rie lambdoll, dickson dee, neurotic WKY, the loop orchestra, randy greif, mlehst and radboud mens."

this could be the strangest small doses release yet. silas ciarán, known for his recordings under the bicycle sighs moniker turns music on its head for this bizarre little connection of songs. One one hand, it actually does sound like children's music at times, but it heads down these strange, surreal paths that confound that leave an creepy aftertaste while simultaneously getting stuck in your head like infectious pop music. the fact that he can do all of this with five songs in twenty minutes blows my mind. edition of 71 copies with inserts.

Existence Establishment CD
"Introducing the debut full-length of this new Dresden based heavy industrial/power electronics unit following his 3 inch CDR on Silken Tofu. Taking cues from styles as diverse as the cinematic Navicon Torture Technologies and grungy lo-fi ...Today I'm Dead, Human Larvae delivers an emotional torrent of self-destructive force with "Home is Where the Hurt Is". Spanning a running time of over an hour, styles range from rhythmic orchestral industrial to bleak passages of black noise with a good dosage of throbbing feedback and scathing vocals. There is some sick twisted narrative to be found here but the search for these mysterious happenings will bring you to places you may never return from."

"the first solo release from Scott, also a member of Deciduous vs Conifer, Oliver/Reeg and part-time member of Autumn in Halifax. the sounds on this disc harken back to the early great days of the Kranky label, think Labradford, Magnog, Stars of the Lid, etc. but without sounding dated at all. this is current drone at its finest. [packaged in an amazing steel folder designed and assembled by Scott, who is a blacksmith by trade. a laser-cut pinwheel is riveted to the cover, over a matching laser-cut punch-out of the same design. the cd is affixed to a chipboard insert that slips out the top of the folder. you have to see/feel this!]"

"The short story Robert Frank &amp; The Moon written by David Merulla began as a title written in one of David's notebooks and then continued to reappear in subsequent notebooks and on various scraps of paper. David's affinity for the Swiss photographer Robert Frank plays a subliminal part in seeing the story through however the story is more about memory, shapes and origami. The companion soundtrack ep is an instrumental music recording by Autumn in Halifax &amp; The Leaves, meant to be listened to while reading the story, however can also be enjoyed by itself. The ep was recorded live to two track at the Wolf Den, Rochester, New York by Joe Tunis, mixed by Chris Reeg &amp; David Merulla. Autumn in Halifax &amp; The Leaves is David Merulla, Scott Oliver, Chris Reeg and Joe Tunis.
turgid animal cd
""Carrion Wind" is an ambitious work which consolidates the sounds explored with F/I/T/H and Sky Burial into a single project, focusing them into a complex and meticulously composed 63 minute industrial opus, a dark and ominous dirge, both beautiful and brutal, incorporating aspects of metal percussion, dark ambient, drone, doom and industrial electronics. Noticeably absent are Page’s vocals as F/I/T/H takes a more "restrained" approach favoring slow layering of synths, field recordings, guitar loops and electronics to build a tension which occasionally peaks at an explosive level comparable to the shorter tracks of F/I/T/H’s previous releases." <strong>Sold without a jewel case.</strong>

dosefortythree
Since their inception in late 2005, Locrian have been honing their sound; working and re-working material; finding the right blend of noise, power electronics, dark ambient, and black metal to work into their sound. Drenched Lands is Locrian’s first full-length studio recording of all new material, and unfolds with an almost narrative structure. It starts with a slow descent into a dark abyss, moving torturedly, gradually rediscovering the light, then leaving you where everything began - completely transformed. The hour-long disc is rounded out by an extended bonus track previously unavailable in any digital format. The black-on-black disc packaged in an arigato pack with a 4-panel insert. Edition of 1000 copies. Co-released by at war with false noise. Non-North American folk are advised to grab this from them to save on postage.

kilt is a trio comprised of bob bellerue (halfnormal, redglaer), raven chacon (black guys), and sandor finta (democrsy, wounded head). This recording strikes me as a travelogue, but I have no idea where they've been, where they're going, or what exactly they've done. It travels beltween drone, harshnoise, rumbling bass, feedback, and all lands in between. It's varied, yet focused, free but arranged. Edition of 71 copies in silkscreened covers.

the first video release on small doses. fracture is a 55 minute film made by kyle willey and scored by robe. it's an abstract atmospheric horror film of the highest order. you can see influences from merhige's begotten and hints from the likes of nosferatu and der golem. the twisted plot follows a man's battle against himself with everything at stake. the music adds a whole other level to the mood. if you've heard robe. before, imagine the imagery that the music evokes - there is fracture. dvdr with a laser etched face packaged in a heavy black folder with an insert and obi. edition of 109 copies.

it seems that ryan mcgill is complete unable to cover the same ground twice. this is the fourth (i believe) bones seabirds release, and it sounds nothing like any of the others. this one foregoes the guitars (for the most part) and relies on ryan's handmade voice of saturn synth.the first nearly 35 minute track is intense and brutal - like being strapped into some sort of machine that's boring deeper and deeper into the earth only to slowly burn you alive. the second gives a bit of respite, but leaves you lost in a dark cave drone. it's not to be missed. packaged in a folded artwork by matt yacoub, with an obi and an insert. edition of 129 copies.

this is the first in a small doses split personality series. lame prey and flea apparitions are both products of the same mind, that of lorne zeman. lame prey starts the disc off with a long piece that mixes up huge, harsh sounds that tend towards power electronics with feedback laced calms in the storm. the flea apparitions portion takes a similarly harsh but more relentless approach built from tape loops. edition of 66 copies.

"ABORTIONS" consists of 16 tracks which make up over 63 minutes of dark ambient experiments...past compositions and newer passages of black ambience...harbingers of what will become of the presence they feel called EMIT.... This cd will lead you down the dark tunnels of abandoned temples filled with past rituals...dust covered hallways littered with the bones of fear. These are the lost relics and newly created moans of EMIT. The wind is warm on my skin....like the breath of a beast I cannot see...
doseseven 3" cdr
more than a year in the works, it's a pleasure to have this one see a release. four tracks: peasant graves starts the disc with dark, brooding drone. it has an almost sinister, ritualistic feel. fences ends the disc with a tense, feedback-driven drone that rises to a slow, steady beating. the two tracks between represent a mail-collaboration. each artist started one track and finished the other. Masterfully mastered by Bob Bellerue. The covers are hand screened in pearescent black ink on black paper. Numbered edition of 130.

small doses 3" cdr
Men Scryfa is Chris Naughton and Simon Lucas of Atavist. Atavist is a good starting point to envision the sound for this project, but they take the sound in different directions than the band that brought them together. It's heavy and plodding, but progressive and melodic with spoken vocals. It feels a bit like a doom metal version of something from Slint's Spiderland record. Absolutely fantastic. Edition of 199 copies.

small doses cdr
last summer, i was out visiting a friend in brooklyn. We were out roming around and we popped into this odd record/book store. we were looking through the record bins and heard some pretty incredible sounds coming from the back of the store. we went back there, and found these four guys playing some of the most incredible music I've ever heard. Tom Abbs on Contrabass, Mike Brown on Contrabass, Lathan Hardy on saxophone, and Ryan Jewell on percussion. i'm not sure I've seen musicians so in sync with one another before. the show was amazing. this is a recording of that that performance. if you are into free jazz and improv, you'll likely want to check this out. 67 minutes across four tracks. edition of 88 packaged in a custom cut folded, card with insert.

This is a new 21 minute composition from Nicholas. He never does the same thing twice, so it's not very surprising to say that this is completely different from the previous release on Small Doses, Astilbe Rubra. It's a very quiet, contemplative, and, at times, heartbreaking piece of music. Edition of 139 with a front cover photo by Rob Dobi.
